Good for you! Caretaking will take everything from you if you let it. It's way past time for you to put yourself first. There is no time like the present, nothing is promised for any of us.
Well-said, my friend. Not selfish. We only have so much time ourselves. And your loved ones know they are/were/still are loved. Make the most of this time and give yourself permission to leave regret behind ❤️
I’m at a very similar stage in life to you so I emphasise with what you’re going through. This may help you, my mum returned to live in Malta when she retired and became very close to one of my cousins who was like another daughter to her. When she became ill with cancer she came home to me for treatment but ultimately she became very I’ll. My cousin was in to and fros on wanting to come and say goodbye but ultimately my mum slipped away before she could. When I went to Malta for a memorial service for mum, my cousin was beside herself with regret but I reminded her that the memories that matter are the ones that were made in life not those last miserable few weeks. It gave her comfort because it’s true.
You needed this. You needed to do something for yourself. Why is that always so hard. We all struggle with this. Struggle on.

Thanks Karen -- the bind every woman our age I know struggles with ...
Good for you, Charlotte! Grief is always with us. We ... adjust.

Where were you in California? I’m going to be in Soquel in a couple of weeks, but it sounds like you’ll be back in Montana by then.
Marshall -- I'm doing Pam's Tomales Bay workshop. Only here until Sunday then back to MT (and to work).
I hope it was a very fruitful time by the coast for you and put you in touch with your writing. And I love Tómales Bay.
