I have a real job, that I like! Hoping to retire in 2 years while I still have time and brain cells to write a few more books. But trying to keep your mother housed in her 60s and 70s will make you very practical about these things.

I hope you can provide that stability for your mother! Good daughter... My mother died at 53 and my father at 83, so it's just keeping our own house from falling down which it nearly did this spring, at least the decks were rotten... Scaling down will be necessary to cover the cost..

Oh. I lost my mother in December, which was a relief. My father ran off to Prague in the 90s, and thankfully for me, married a woman who is 40 years younger than he is (gross, but useful). So I'm done with keeping parents' heads above water. A beloved aunt is having a tough time mentally, so my cousins and I are doing what we can, but I only have myself to support from now on. Which is a huge relief. And I'm only 59, so there's time to do stuff.
